Ferrocement
Water Proofing Treatment
Ferrocement can be used
for waterproofing.
Ferrocement is made by placing
meshes of various types together in a reinforcement core
and applying cement sand mix into this mesh.
For waterproofing purpose
this is modified as follows:
It comprises of layers of hot
dip galvanized 22-gauge orthogonal woven wire mesh with
12mm size mesh openings stretched and fixed to substrate
with 100 mm overlaps in both directions.
It is then mortared 1:2 cement mortar admixed with fiber
reinforced superplasticized microsilica blended special
additive in appropriate approved proportions, applied over
a bond coat of polymer modified cement slurry, finished
with mechanical vibratory orbital trowel.
Wire mesh can stretched & fixed with GI wire nails/clamps
at 450mm c/c. The fixing with GI wire nails/clamps shall
be done with epoxy in drilled holes.
The water proofing with
Ferrocement can be done for various thickness.
A. 15 mm thick with two layers
of woven wire mesh (over existing Brickbat coba)
B. 20 mm thick with two layers of woven wire mesh (over
slopping slab with out Brickbat Coba.)
C. 25 mm thick with two layer of woven wire mesh (in sunk
slabs of toilets)
